Zanzibar is one of the most popular honeymoon destinations in East Africa, and for good reason: it is a short flight from the safari parks, the beaches are exceptional and the standard of small luxury property is high.
For a honeymoon, three things decide the area. Sunsets: Kendwa and the north-west face west, and Michamvi is the only part of the east coast where the sun sets over water. Privacy: Matemwe, Michamvi and Mtende are the quietest developed coasts. Swimming: the north coast is swimmable at any tide.
